Bio

Maria Hassabi is an artist and choreographer based in New York. Her performances and installations are presented in theaters, museums, galleries, and public spaces worldwide, including documenta14 (Kassel), Walker Art Center (Minneapolis), Museum of Modern Art (New York), Hammer Museum (Los Angeles), Stedelijk Museum (Amsterdam), The 55th Venice Biennale, Kunstenfestivaldesarts (Brussels), Australian Centre for Contemporary Art (Melbourne), steirischer herbst (Graz), Performa (New York), The Kitchen (New York), and Performance Space 122 (New York), amongst others. Hassabi received a New York Dance and Performance "Bessie" Award for Outstanding Production in 2016; the Herb Alpert Award in 2015; the President’s Award for Performing Arts from Lower Manhattan Cultural Council in 2012; a Guggenheim Fellowship in 2011; and a Grants to Artists Award from the Foundation for Contemporary Arts in 2009. She holds a BFA from the California Institute of the Arts.
